Lyngdorf TDAI-2170 Integrated Amplifier Reviews

  2. The Absolute Sound Magazine
  3. Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity

The TDAI-2170 has three notable Lyngdorf design technologies: digital amplification, Room Perfect signal correction, and Intersample Clipping Correction (ICC). Digital amplification, as applied here, is not a loosely worded marketing gimmick, but real science and a newer way to amplify a digital audio signal. Some may criticize that statement, as most technology we see today has been around for a while but was not commercialized due to some impractical hurdle (such as cost) or a missing technological piece of the puzzle. And I am sure that is the case here. So, while the concept may not be new, there are not any digital amplifiers that I am aware of for consumer high-end audio applications that utilize the same technology as the TDAI-2170.

One finds nothing really to fault, and the sound gives the combined impression of delicacy and solidity that is characteristic of real music. The impression of reality is enhanced by the extremely silent background. Music emerges without any apparent electronic artifice.

Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity

I firmly believe the vast majority of individuals with white earbuds attached to their external auditory canals, can very much indeed tell the difference between higher and lower fidelity sound, they’ve just never had the opportunity! Enter Lyngdorf Audio’s new, fully digital integrated stereo amplifier, the TDAI 2170. Priced as a quality midlevel component, Lyngdorf Audio aims directly at the “iPod Generation” with a clean, adaptable user interface and uncompromising technology packaged in an elegant, familiar design.

  • New HDR format for broadcast: HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma)
  • No forced cooling = dead silent
State-of-the-art audio processing

The MP-40 features decoding and balanced outputs for 12 audio channels. With three HDMI inputs and one output, this new masterpiece from Lyngdorf Audio supports HDMI 2.0b with the HDMI 2.1 feature eARC
and Dynamic Lip-Sync. The MP-40 offers full support of the immersive surround formats DOLBY ATMOS®, DTS:X®, and AURO-3D®,
and with RoomPerfectTM calibration on all channels, it delivers a surround sound experience that outmatches anything in and above its class. Allowing a video throughput of up to 18 Gbps, the MP-40
supports full 4K 60Hz video stream including Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG. eARC enables a full Dolby Atmos audio bitstream to be “returned” to the processor from the television, allowing for full audio quality from the TV’s built-in media players. The MP-40 also supports pass-through of
the new HDR format for broadcast, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma).

Built-in media player

The MP-40 features a built-in media player, which connects to services like Spotify, Airplay, and Roon as well as internet radio. Through a cabled network or USB connector, you can access your FAT32 based
library of music and enjoy it in stereo or up-mixed on a surround sound format.

RoomPerfect room correction

The MP-40 is equipped with RoomPerfectTM, the world’s most sophisticated technology for adapting the sound system to the environment. The RoomPerfectTM calibration ensures a perfect surround sound experience, no matter which speakers you use and in which room you position the setup. This eliminates the need for bulky bass traps and other expensive acoustic treatment. With RoomPerfectTM and bass management, enabled through true integration of main speakers and subwoofers, it is now possible to obtain seamless level alignment where you experience a lifelike sound scenery instead of individual loudspeakers. This gives more freedom when choosing speakers and their placement and guarantees consistent performance.

Dead silent

The MP-40 has no forced cooling, so you will never hear any noisy fans. If used with the Lyngdorf SDA-2400 power stages, which don’t have fans either, you will have a dead silent system, where you can enjoy everything from the faintest details to the loudest bangs with full dynamics and realism.

Custom voicings

The built-in voicing tool will allow you to customize 32 voicings, thus changing the overall tonality of the system to your preferences and dedicating voicings to each input of the MP-40. You can even create a
voicing to compensate for a bad sounding recording. Each voicing can consist of up to eight filters with adjustable gain and Q, all controlled through the browser interface showing the effect of each filter as well
as the overall effect to the tonality.
